If you watch closely you will see two short clips from the TKRI demonstrations at the Missouri Botanical Gardens this year. Nice job guys.

We were extremely fortunate with this year’s demonstrations at the Missouri Botanical Gardens Japanese Festival: great weather, great crowds, great performances of the material, and two people on hand to film it all in it’s entirety.

Great job folks!

This weekend the combined St. Louis, Washington University and Virginia TKRI Clubs will demonstrate their unique brand of karate at the Missouri Botanical Gardens.

If you’re in St. Louis, swing by the gardens for a great festival. It’s one of the largest in the nation, with lots of great stuff to see/do/watch/eat/drink.  Stop by and see us- we always do a very high energy demo of practical karate that leaves the crowd saying “…ouch…”

The demonstration schedule is available here.

Every year TKRI folks from all over get together to demonstrate karate at the annual Japanese Festival in the Missouri Botanical Gardens in Saint Louis Missouri. This year the festival falls on the weekend of September 5-7th. We are hard at work preparing our demonstration, though folks are a little more scattered than they have been in years past so there are going to be some challenges.

The Japanese Festival in Saint Louis is one of the premiere such festivals in the U.S.  Martial artists will want to make it a point to see the Koryu Bugei demonstrations by martial artist and author Dave Lowry and his colleagues. There is always great food available and demonstrations of ceramics, chado (tea), dance, and even sumo.

If you are within traveling distance of Saint Louis please consider coming down and spending a day or two taking in the sites. Here is a link to the schedule of events for the festival:

I found a cache of old pics of our group and I am slowly working on scanning them in.
This pic is from around 2000. The group was demonstrating at the Japanese Festival at the Missouri Botanical Gardens in Saint Louis Missouri.
You can find more pics at our Flickr site. The link is on the sidebar.

TKRI will be demonstrating karate again this year at the Japanese Festival at the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis Missouri. Our demonstration times will be 2pm on Saturday the 30th, and at 12pm on Sunday the 31st of August.  Our demonstration will be held in the Lehmann Lawn.

"Try to see yourself as you truly are and try to adopt what is meritorious in the work of others. As a karateka you will of course often watch others practice. When you do and you see strong points in the performance of others, try to incorporate them into your own technique. At the same time, if the trainee you are watching seems to be doing less than his best ask yourself whether you too may not be failing to practice with diligence. Each of us has good qualities and bad; the wise man seeks to emulate the good he perceives in others and avoid the bad."
